📢 Public Sector Jobs – Application Forms- How to get it right?📢

A lot of my clients are experiencing a lot of success in achieving Public Sector roles.

The success has come from the preparation, it is a key component in any transition process, but it is essential for Public Sector roles. Why?

📣 Because it is really important to get the application form right, it is different to submitting a CV, the application form is checking for the competencies that are required for the role.

📣In most cases the requirement is:

📣”Briefly describe what you consider a good example of demonstrating your ability in each of the skills areas set out hereunder”

📣You have approximately 300 words to answer that question. The answer should be structured using the CAR or STAR method, and the focus of the answer and the majority of the 300 words should be describing the action you took. Telling the reader how you behaved/performed and skills you used is what they are looking for to decide if you meet the criteria they have identified for the role.

📣The answer should also focus on what the definition of the competency is in the information booklet. You will see the following words “A summary definition of each of the competency areas is specified in the Information Booklet. Very important to read what they define the competency as before you start to write.

📣It’s not easy as the word count can limit you telling the reader all that you want to say, however it is important to adhere to set word count and provide structure so that the reader can see the skills you have for each of the competencies.

📣Getting the application form right, allows you the best opportunity to get an interview for the role. The interview is also a process that you can very easily prepare for. I will do a separate post to provide some guidance for that.

📣For now, if there is a job that you are interested in, allow time and give yourself structure to complete the application form. If you are struggling reach of for some help, guidance here can be a huge benefit to getting this part of the process right.
