Virtual Interviews

My week of coaching/teaching has been a nice mix of face to face and virtual…a happy mix for me I enjoy both….and the virtual world has become second nature to me…..

Interviews are also a mix of both face to face and virtual…a few tips below that might help when you are preparing for a virtual interview….a lot of the rules are the same but a few key pointers that might help you to be more prepared and more successful

📣 Technology Check
Test your internet connection, webcam, and microphone well in advance.
Log in to the interview platform (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc.) before the scheduled time to check compatibility. Keep a backup plan in case of technical failures, such as a mobile hotspot or alternative device.

📣 Professional Background & Lighting
Choose a neutral or professional virtual background if needed.
Ensure good lighting so your face is clearly visible. Position yourself against a clutter-free and distraction-free background.

📣 Camera & Body Positioning
Place your camera at eye level to maintain natural eye contact.
Sit up straight and face the camera directly for a professional appearance.
Adjust your screen so your upper body and shoulders are visible.

📣 Audio & Sound Control
Test your microphone to ensure clear audio without background noise.
Use headphones if necessary to minimize echo and improve sound quality.
Keep pets, doorbells, and other potential noise distractions at bay.

📣Dress Professionally
Wear the same attire you would for an in-person interview.
Ensure your clothing is well-fitted, clean, and appropriate for the industry.

📣 Minimize Distractions
Inform household members or roommates about your interview to avoid interruptions. Close unnecessary applications and notifications on your computer. Keep your phone on silent mode unless needed for backup purposes.

📣 Prepare as You Would for an In-Person Interview. Research the company and role thoroughly. Prepare answers to common interview questions, particularly competency-based ones. Have a notepad and pen nearby for quick notes if needed. Keep a copy of your CV and any relevant documents accessible.

📣 Final Check Before the Interview Starts. Log in 5-10 minutes early to settle in. Take a few deep breaths to stay calm and focused. Get into the right head space, it’s only really a conversation with another person(s).

Hope that helps, reach out if I can help
