Change and having the courage to act.
🩷 I’m lucky enough to spend my summers in Kilkee, where I swim in the sea almost every day.
💡 Five years ago, the sea terrified me.
💡 I was a pool and river swimmer. I was afraid of the swell, the sheer size of the ocean, how deep it was and, if I’m being completely truthful, what might be underneath me!
💡Fast forward five years and this is where I feel most comfortable.
🏊♂️ Out in the Atlantic, swimming through places like this, exploring a coastline I could never have imagined myself being brave enough to swim.
😨 The fear didn’t disappear overnight. I just kept doing things that stretched me a little further.
💡There’s something in that which carries into so many other parts of life.
I meet people who know they want to make a change. A different career. A step into leadership. A new direction personally or professionally. Often the hardest part is making the decision to try.
💡You don’t have to know exactly how it will turn out before you begin.
Sometimes it really is a case of feel the fear and do it anyway.
💡Five years ago, I would have looked at this photograph and thought, absolutely no chance.
💡Now I look at it and think, when are we going again?
💡And that might be my favourite thing about change. You never quite know what you’re capable of until you give yourself the chance to find out.
